Today we made the drive to the orphanage. It was neat to see the more rural areas of Vietnam. There is a lot of construction going on here, so we would see farmers tending their rice patties amongst heavy construction equipment. One of the roads we travelled was two lanes being widened to sixteen! We also saw the beginnings of Hanoi's first skyscraper. It will be 70 stories when completed. When that area is complete it will become the new center of Hanoi and the area where we're staying will become the historical area.
The drive lasted about 2 1/2 hours. Traffic was lighter because it is Sunday, so I'm not sure how long the drive will be for the giving and receiving ceremony. On the way, we were told the ceremony will be tomorrow. When we finally got to the orphanage, there was a woman standing just inside the doorway holding a baby that looked familiar to us, but we weren't sure. When we went inside there was a bed with three other babies on it. We looked back at the woman holding the baby and she was smiling at us. She said "Chung" (his Vietnamese first name, pronounced choong). That was all we needed to hear! I hope she wasn't planning on holding that baby much longer because we were comin' for 'em! She started speaking to us and soon realized we had absolutely no idea what she was saying, so she enlisted the help of Mr. Linh. She had been trying to tell us that he ate the most of any baby in the orphanage. She seemed very proud of this fact as she squeezed his arms and legs periodically throughout our visit while smiling and nodding her head, making sure we saw how she'd "fattened him up". It was very obvious to us that this woman cares deeply for Chung and we expect tomorrow to be emotional. Karen held Chung first. He had the cutest confused look at first. Probably because there was a camera in his face. Within two minutes though, he was fast asleep. As he was passed to me, he woke long enough to satisfy the urge to grab my nose and then he was out again. We were told he does not fuss and that he sleeps after being fed. He must have just eaten because he certainly wanted to sleep. Come to think of it, that confused look did slightly resemble the after Thanksgiving Dinner look! We are suspicious that his caretaker may have spoiled him, she told us when he cries we must pick him up right away and walk with him. We promised we would. We also were told that he and two other babies were "the naughtiest". Apparently when these three cohorts get together they are too much for one caretaker to handle! All too soon the time came to leave. Talk about a dirty trick, as if we hadn't waited long enough! Oh well, I guess we can stand one more day. Then he's ours for keeps!

Oh my God, Cori!! Can you feel my tears on your cheek as I see you holding your son? Do you remember the photos of you where the silly photographer has you holding a beer can? He looks just like you in those photos. My tears have turned to sobs of relief for this journey of a dragonfly has been a very long and emotional one for you and your family, including those of us who love you most. It is obvious how much love the woman in the photo holds for Tanner. He has been well cared for. God has answered every single prayer sent to His ears. Your son is absolutely beautiful and does not look in any way that he has been neglected. Spoiled from walking? I don't think either of you will mind this task. I'm rather thinking that you'd be having him in your arms every minute of life anyway. Besides, there isn't a person back home who isn't going to spoil the dickens out of him. Glad to see that they didn't find it necessary to reshave his head. Now he looks like the rest of the Burr men. Teehee. Thank goodness the girls don't. Another Teehee. I am really looking forward to dinner with them on Tuesday. It's a fun thing for me to do and I'm thinking that maybe some spoiling won't do them any harm either. Perhaps a little trip to the mall. Dad and I are filled with joy for the two of you and prayers answered. We love you more than you will ever know.
Karen, he fits in your arms like he was born there. I know that it would be nice if Cori could stay there with you until the end, but I have a feeling that those 3 weeks of bonding alone with Tanner will pass in a flash. Not one body part left un-kissed. Well, maybe one or two. What a Thanksgiving this will be, huh? So very much to be thankful for.

He fits in your arms so prefect, Just like he belongs there. His caregiver looks very pleased and proud. I'm so happy for the 2 of you. You've completed your circle.
Karen, your Mom is looking down and is so very happy for you. You have what you've always wanted.
Love always
Nanaholly
I want to squeeze, hug and kiss him.
He's beautiful! He's always belonged in your arms. You can tell from his face, he's yours and he knows it. He's so content, I've never seen you both look so happy. It's been a long journey and you both deserve this and more...
Tanner's caregiver looks so proud and she should be!
What size is Tanner now? Will he fit into the stuff we already have for him or do we have to re-shop?
Lily wants to know if Tanner is silly? And Delaney keeps looking at the picture of Karen and Tanner and saying "Aunt Kar, Tanner?" I asked her if she wanted to play with Tanner and she said "Ya!"
Keep enjoying your journey and these updates are fantastic. You both look great by the way, how's the food?
Love and all that mushy stuff,
Missi
BABY!!! I am so happy that you finally got to see and hold Tanner. And I'm glad that Uncle Cori actually got a chance to hold him (you must have been behaving). Tanner looks so happy, and he looks like he belongs with you guys. Can't wait to see all three of you.
Love,
Caitlin
Karen and Cori
Tanner is adorable and it looks like he took to you all with no problems. We are so excited for you and I can't wait to hold him myself. He already has the Polizzi trait of being the biggest eater of all the babies so he will fit in just fine. I hope the clothes fit still!! Tanner has the cutest little cheeks! You all don't look too sweaty in the pictures so hopefully it's not as hot their as you thought.
I have been checking your blog every two hours since Friday and it was the first thing I did this morning!! I know you don't update it every 2 hours but I can't help myself! I'm so excited that your having the ceremony on Monday so you can have Tanner sooner. How is the food? Hve you been able to find anything that you can eat? I can't believe the pictures of the city,I guess I thought it was still all jungle and grass huts in Vietnam. I'm not very good with history of other countries I guess.
I will be thinking of you all day on Monday and I cant wait to see more pictures and read how it went. Sending our love to all three of you!!Diane
Karen and Cori,
Tanner is breathtakingly sweet. I am so excited for you! Thanks for posting for the rest of us waiting. You know how much it means to us! Anna
I wanted to send Tanner some pictures of his new family...I labled them for him, that way he won't get all of us confused

Hey you two (or should I say three?) ~
Truth be told, this is my first blog experience so it took me a few minutes to figure out how to respond. (obviously I found the answer....) I'm so excited that it's difficult to put all the emotions in writing. But.....I think you know how I (we) feel! You are all in my (our) thoughts and prayers. We're having a sorority meeting on Tues so I've printed off all your comments and pics to share with everyone. If you need anything and there's a way we can help, let me (us)know!!!!!! Love, Lori
I'm so glad you made it to Vietnam without much trouble. Tanner is so cute, and it is so awesome that he is a little chunky monkey. It is a great sign that his nanny adored him because he knows how to be loved. Now you can just put that love and attention into overdrive. Good luck spoiling him!
Also, thanks so much for sharing your site with the agency group.
Kristina
